Dear potential trainee teacher (that’s you!),
You will begin your journey immersed in the school life of one of our expert schools across Leeds and its surrounding areas, observing and participating in a creative and innovative teaching and learning environment.
You will quickly start teaching classes in pairs or individually. Contrasting school placements will allow you to put into practice what you have learnt at your lead school. With your Lead Tutor only having on average four trainees on their subject course, you will receive personalised ‘one to one’ subject and pastoral support. You will work professionally alongside colleagues within a department providing you with the opportunity to learn more about yourself and how you can progress to be the best possible teacher that you can be. You will receive tailored support to develop your subject knowledge for teaching throughout the course.
Alongside your time in school you will benefit from bespoke university sessions to learn about current research in education and how this will inform you in your classroom practice. As well as gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in your training year, you will have the opportunity to gain a Professional Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) (FHEQ Level 6). You will also achieve up 60 credits towards a Masters (FHEQ Level 7). All awards are from our partner Leeds Trinity University.
