Why join Leeds SCITT for PGCE Teacher Training?
Leeds SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) is an exciting and innovative teacher training provider that offers the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for aspiring educators. Our Postgraduate Teacher Training courses help to provide the highest quality of teaching and learning, ensuring that successful candidates have the teaching skills and knowledge necessary to become outstanding educators and secure a successful career in the teaching profession.
PGCE Computing and IT
As well as subject knowledge enhancement this postgraduate qualification will give you school-based experience and help build confidence in your professional practice.
On this PGCE Computer Science course, you will be working alongside a dedicated team of subject specialists who will provide you with the training and support necessary to develop into an excellent Computer Science teacher.
In your Lead School Experience, you will be introduced to a range of practical, research-informed strategies to help you to understand how best to teach your subject in secondary schools or other higher educational settings.
As you progress throughout the course, secondary school-based learning will allow you to begin implementing these practical ideas and adapt them to fit your school context as well as the needs of your learners, gradually taking more ownership and initiative on your placements and preparing you for your teaching post.
How will I become a confident Computer Science teacher?
With the guidance of a subject expert, you will have access to a range of opportunities to enhance your subject knowledge of Computer Science and Information Technology (IT), and prepare you to teach a range of academic and vocational courses. Computer Science in a school setting centres around 3 main aspects: computer science, ICT and digital literacy, with strong links to mathematics, science and technology.
Develop your Teaching Practice
To be a good teacher you need to have a broad knowledge of all these aspects, with increasing levels of subject expertise as you teach at KS4 and KS5. Equally as important is your ability to take the difficult concepts, break them down into smaller, simpler component parts and present them in a way that is both relevant and engaging to the students in front of you.
School-based training opportunities will allow you to develop your skills in education and assessment, as well as provide an environment for you to reflect on your practice. Subject tutors and mentors will be available throughout the course to offer guidance, advice and support when necessary.
From the Computer Science ITT School Lead Tutor
We are looking for passionate individuals wanting to become computing teachers, who can improve the digital literacy of young people. An excellent Computing and ICT trainee teacher is adaptable to change, is interested in keeping up to date with the latest technological advancements, can think creatively to solve problems and help support students to troubleshoot in a similar way. If you have these personal qualities then this training course could offer the stepping stone to a future job in teaching.
