Physical Education PGCE (Including PE with EBacc)

Leeds SCITT offers a Physical Education PGCE course with a difference: we aim to get you into the classroom quickly to learn with a ‘hands-on’ approach and to become an experienced practitioner. The course offers a unique opportunity to develop your experience in dynamic and supportive school environments, whilst allowing you to establish your own style of teaching.

It was good to get straight into school and be in lessons from the get go. I gained a lot of confidence during this time and learnt a lot about different sports that I didn't feel as confident with.

Eased in nicely to classes and lessons. Never felt overwhelmed.

Why join Leeds SCITT for your PE PGCE Secondary Teacher Training Programme?

Leeds SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) is an exciting and innovative teacher training provider offering aspiring educators the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Our Postgraduate Teacher Training Courses help to provide the highest quality of teaching and learning, ensuring that successful candidates have the teaching skills and knowledge necessary to become outstanding educators and secure a successful career in the teaching profession.

      Professional Development through School-Based Training

On this PGCE secondary physical education course you will be working with a dedicated team of subject specialists, who will provide you with the training and support necessary to develop into an excellent Physical Education teacher. In your Lead School Experience, you will be introduced to a range of practical, research-informed strategies to help you to understand how best to teach your subject and develop your own practice.

As you progress through the PGCE course, you will gain experience and begin to implement these practical ideas in educational settings, adapting them to fit your school context as well as to the needs of your learners. You will gradually be taking more ownership and initiative on your placements with practical sessions and classroom-based learning.

How will I become a confident Physical Education Teacher?

If you are passionate about working with young people to inspire them to see the importance of health and fitness, and a love for being active, then the Leeds SCITT PGCE programme is the course for you! Our Subject Lead Tutor will ensure you are equipped with the knowledge and practical skills in sport and physical activity, for you to become excellent PE teachers.

Whatever your favourite/chosen sport, we will give you the tools to be able to become highly skilled in all the main sports delivered on the curriculum from football to tennis, to fitness to hockey. You will also develop the knowledge and skills to be able to deliver the theory element of GCSE and BTEC specifications.

PE is a very competitive subject in which to gain employment. To maximise your chances for future employment, we will not only give you key skills for teaching sport, but will also provide opportunities and support to be able to teach a second subject for those on the PE PGCE.

Trainees on the PE with EBAcc will have support from a specialist teacher in their chosen EBAcc subject and the opportunity to teach this subject on placement.

From the PE ITT School Lead Tutor

We are looking for applicants who are passionate about inspiring the next generation to keep fit and healthy, try something new or excel at a competitive level. Corpus Christi Catholic College is in one of the most socio-economically deprived areas in the UK, and provides the pupils with opportunities they rarely have the chance to experience through the range of sports offered.

With the fantastic facilities available, under the guidance of PE specialists, trainees are given the opportunity to develop their own skills in a variety of sports. As a result, you will increase your confidence and competency when teaching these sports to the pupils.

What does the Lead School Experience offer?

The Physical Education department at Corpus Christi Catholic College has a range of expertise and sports skills to offer to support the training experience on the PGCE course. Furthermore, research-led teaching and learning is the foundation of the department’s overall philosophy.

Extracurricular opportunities along with teaching and learning is one of the two facets which make up the foundation of the departments’ philosophy. Finely balanced between participation for all and ensuring that gifted and talented pupils face challenging competitive opportunities.
