Our Science with Physics programme is the ideal ITT course for candidates that have the passion and commitment to teaching pupils about how physics is central to our everyday lives.  With the support of the Lead Tutor and our Physics Department, you will be supported in your training as you embark on a career as a Physics Teacher.

With the support of experienced teachers, you will develop a deeper understanding of your subject knowledge and techniques to help pupils to discover more about their practical, analytical, creative, evaluative and problem-solving skills.  Young people have a natural curiosity about the world they live in, and excellent Science teaching can capture and develop this to ensure all pupils achieve their very best, as well as showing students that learning Physics needn’t be overly challenging. Working with your Lead Tutor mentor in Physics will help you to shape your teaching to present this fascinating and complex subject to young pupils and develop strong and inspirational teaching attributes.

Whilst you’ll focus on Physics, trainees will also get the opportunity to expand their teaching experience further within the subject of science, by leading Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 classes on Biology and Chemistry.

A Fantastic learning experience with a great mix of support, nurturing and challenge

— Science Trainee

From the Science with Physics ITT School Lead Tutor

If you are passionate about working within a teaching environment and eager to develop your confidence and understanding as a Physics Teacher, our School Centred Initial Teacher Training course is a fantastic choice for you.  Our Lead Tutor will ensure that you have access to a stimulating programme of teacher training, and will ensure that you are given every opportunity to succeed.  As part of your training at Wetherby High School, you will have the chance to observe colleagues in both Science and across the school curriculum and support you with your reflections. The Lead Tutor will also guide you through the Teaching Standards, providing you with a clear path to success, and modelling for you high expectations needed to succeed as a teacher.

The Lead Tutor will also support you to take risks in the classroom, and offer constructive criticism as to how to further develop into the teacher that you want to be.  They will ensure that you are supporting in your planning of Physics lessons, and that you have access to high quality provision as you begin your teaching career.
