Titus Salt School
Titus Salt School is a diverse community with a staff that are fully committed to teacher training and also hold specialist status for Maths & Computing. Titus Salt School is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school that is centred on four key values; summarised as, together we can make a difference; resilient to change; ambitious to excel and caring for the lives of individuals.
As a trainee on either Computing & IT, Design Technology or Geography, you will spend the first six weeks of your PGCE course and be seen as a member of staff from the start of the academic year. You will immerse yourself in our experienced departments as well as the wider life of the school. You will have the opportunity to observe and learn from experts in the classroom delivering your subject, as well as spending time with the other trainees learning all about the pedagogy behind teaching your subject, how to plan lessons, what makes an excellent lesson as well as at the same time developing your subject knowledge. As the six-weeks Lead School Experience progresses, you will have the opportunity to teach lessons, this is a personalised journey, so for some, that may happen sooner, as we can tailor the course to suit your previous experience and confidence at this stage.
This course will give you support to gain confidence in teaching in your subject and to develop the skills required to devise and deliver engaging lessons.

Testimonials
“What I liked about the Leeds SCITT course was the practical nature of it. We basically were on our feet in front of the class within the first few weeks. As a ‘hands on’ learner, I found this an amazing way to progress. It has been difficult this year to have all the university learning sessions online, but the content put out by Leeds Trinity University has been brilliant. Coupled with the in-school experience, I feel completely ready to start my teaching career. Coming into the Lead School experience was extremely daunting, and I felt settled and supported from the very first day. Being welcomed into the school and department as a member of staff from day one, made me feel part of the team and the school. It gave me the confidence and validation to learn. The Subject Leads at my Lead School and placements have taught me an incredible amount. Not only in enhancing my subject knowledge but, in how to teach that knowledge. The strategies for teaching and learning and ensuring a safe learning environment for all are drawn out of experience and I have had the wisdom and experience of both my subject leads without which, I would not be anywhere near the stage I am now. The encouragement and support of my Subject Leads has been the most vital aspect of my journey this year.” Ed Williams, Geography 2020-21
“My favourite part about the SCITT course is that it is mainly school based, so you learn from teachers that are knowledgeable about the subject and current practices in teaching. From the very start you are teaching, so you can try what you have learnt and adapt your practice based on feedback from your mentor and host teachers. It was great to spend the first part of the placement in a school with so many other trainee teachers from across a range of subjects. It allowed us all to get to know each other enough that we could support each other later in the course. The weekly subject meetings were fun and interesting and provided a much-needed group learning experience in a year where all the university teaching was done online. Louise has been a fantastic Subject Lead and is always happy to help. It was useful to have time to focus on some subject specific aspects of teaching Geography and she provided some excellent tips and advice.” Sam Conway, Geography 2020-21

Louise is always happy to provide feedback on lessons and always includes tips on how to improve which is much appreciated and has been critical in my progress during the course.
