As every teacher and student knows, gaining an excellent standard of education today, can often lead to a highly successful career tomorrow. That’s why we ensure every student receives the right tuition and support they need to become an outstanding secondary school teacher. 

At Leeds SCITT all our secondary school initial teacher training courses offer both QTS and a Professional Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) (FHEQ Level 6).  Courses are offered in a number of subject areas.   PGCE students are also registered to study for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education qualification (PGCert) (FHEQ Level 7) and awards are from Leeds Trinity University.

All PGCE courses with Leeds SCITT are offered in the 11-16 age range with the opportunity to experience teaching at post-16 level.

About School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) Courses 

School Centred Initial Teacher Training courses are ideal for any graduate who wishes to complete their teacher training within a school environment. As all our courses are led by local active teaching professionals, you can expect to receive a high level of training and support from both inside and outside the classroom.

That’s why if you’re passionate about working within a teaching environment and eager to develop your confidence and understanding as a teacher, a School Centred Initial Teacher Training course is a fantastic choice for you.

Our SCITT courses offer a full Professional-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and 60 Masters credits.

About School Direct Places 

School Direct Places are offered in the same model as School Centred Initial Teacher Training courses. They are designed to enable schools to recruit teacher trainees with the expectation that once they have achieved Qualified Teacher Status, the newly qualified teacher could potentially be employed within the school or group of schools in which they initially trained. 

Our School Direct courses offer a full Professional-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and 60 Masters Credits.

Core Features Included Within SCITT Courses and School Direct Places:

  • You will be placed in the lead school for your chosen subject in the first part of the course
  • You will complete two teaching placements at separate secondary schools
  • Be awarded a full PGCE qualification with QTS status and 60 masters credits 
  • Have full access to support from Leeds Trinity University and Leeds SCITT 
  • Advice and support available in securing employment within the partnership and  local area
